Dear City Council,
I join ~1,200 community members, who have emailed the City since this topic was raised, in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

Dear Mayor's Office and Council Members,
The Pleasant Hills Golf Course property being discussed at the April 23rd City Council Mee ng falls within the boundaries of the Evergreen Leadership Neighborhood Associa on.
Since this important process is taking place in our neighborhood, board members have taken a role in listening to neighbors, developers and community leaders about possible redevelopment
of the land.
We support the Planning Department recommenda on for a City-led community planning process. We urge you to do the same for the benefit of the city, the local region, and the community which seeks to cul vate an enduring, collabora ve rela onship with the developer to achieve our mutual goals.

RE: Item 8.4, 4/25/23, City-Led Engagement Process for Pleasant Hills Golf Course Dear Mayor Mahan and City Council,
The undersigned organizations support the Planning Department’s staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City. Planning for development of this site merits a community engagement process reflective of the size and magnitude of the opportunity – a process that would allow residents to comment on potential uses such as urban open space, housing, and mixed use development without filtering by a particular organization’s priorities. A key step toward maximizing the opportunity is therefore for the City’s Planning Department to provide management, direction and oversight over the community engagement process since the Department would consider and prioritize the holistic and comprehensive needs of the city, the local region, and the community.
We support the Planning Department recommendation and we urge you to do the same for the benefit of the city, the local region, and the community.

RE: Item 8.4, 4/25/23, City-Led Engagement Process for Pleasant Hills Golf Course Dear Mayor Mahan and City Council,
The San Jose All District Leadership Group (SJADLG) is a consortium of the leadership of the active San Jose leadership groups. The purpose of the SJADLG is to strengthen two-way communication between neighborhoods and government agencies and representatives and build a stronger sense of community within all Districts in the City of San Jose.
SJADLG supports the Planning Department’s staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.”
This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City. Dear City Council,
I join ~1,200 community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
The Pleasant Hill community deserves the right to influence important decisions made regarding any development in their area. You, their elected representatives, need to know your electorate's opinions before you can represent them honestly and with integrity. Otherwise, you aren't practicing democracy, but rather, simply acting as shills for the developers.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Dear City Council,
I join ~1,200 community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Please preserve or make better use to land . We have too many apartments and housing being built that we cannot afford. We are not preserving any land.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

As open land in our city becomes more scarce, it’s critical to have community input. The city led and developer led efforts have led to the current state of fragmented neighborhoods and community. Please include representation from those that live here and want to see spaces that integrate recreation, appropriate retail, housing and public services (schools).
Thank you
