TO: RULES AND OPEN FROM: Councilmember Bien Doan
GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE District 7
SUBJECT: KEY TO THE CITY RECOGNITION DATE: May, 12, 2023 Approved Date 5/12/2023

RECOMMENDATION

1. Approve the purchase of Key to the City awards

BACKGROUND
In February 2023, two SJPD officers were shot in the line of duty, with one requiring surgery.

The Key to the City is bestowed upon distinguished residents as well as honored guests of the City of San José. Today, the symbolism behind a ceremonial key to the city award represents welcome and trust bestowed upon the receiver
For their valor and commitment to San José, these officers will each receive a Key to the City during the June 6, 2023 City Council meeting.

The expense of the key on a plaque is estimated to be greater than $50. Council Policy 0-38 has deemed this to not be an allowable office expenditure and therefore it needs council approval to proceed.
