ACI-NA CFO of the Year 2021 Finalist for Atlanta Business Chronical CFO of the Year 2021 Please state why you want to become a member of this Board or Commission including specific objectives which you would work toward as a member.
Prior to joining VTA here in San Jose, I spent nearly 12 years at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in various finance and executive leadership roles. I am hopeful the skills and experience I gained in Atlanta could be utilized here in San Jose at SJC as a member of this commission. With SJC as my home airport, I would like to help the City of San Jose and the staff at SJC ensure we are doing all we can to make our airport the airport of choice in this region.
Please state any other information which you feel would be useful in reviewing your application
With a background in finance, combined with a great deal of airport experience not only at Hartsfield Jackson, but also within the industry through my work with ACI-NA and ACI-World I believe I can provide value to the Commission and ultimately to our city and our airport.

I believe it would be relatively remote; however, as an executive with VTA there is a chance actions could come to the commission where my appointment to the commission could require a recusal on a particular matter.

- Fare Integration Task Force
- Clipper Executive Board
Considering your experience and activities in business, labor, School, professional, social,
Commissions, Boards, or other organizations, indicate the experience, training, knowledge and/or skills which qualify you for appointment.
I do believe the most relevant experience I have, and that which will benefit the Airport Commission the most, is my recent tenure with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
In addition, my professional
career within the accounting and finance arena provides a perspective for the commission focused on strategy, revenue growth and sound fiscal discipline.
What is your understanding of the purpose of the Commission? To me the purpose of the commission is to advise and assist the airport staff wherever possible to ensure business decisions are made with an appropriate level of analysis and review, and to provide the city council a means of oversight and review as items are presented to them for official action.
Please list three issues facing the City that you feel the Council should address.
1. Revitalizing downtown San Jose to attract businesses, jobs, residents and patrons while keeping the history and culture of the city alive 2. Promoting the increase of housing opportunities throughout the city (affordable and market) 3. Assist communities in developing solutions to the homelessness pandemic that exists
Question applies to
Airport Commission
What are the three most critical challenges facing Mineta San Jose International Airport in the next five
years?
What do you bring to the table in terms of experience, expertise, or perspective to help address these challenges
I'll start with the second part first.
I'm hopeful to bring the experience I've gained at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to the commission to help address any and all challenges faced at SJC.
I also
bring a fresh and new perspective as a relatively new member of the city.
And lastly, I'm hopeful
relationships I've developed with industry leaders and airline representatives could help bring change where needed for our airport. Regarding the most critical challenges facing SJC: 1. Regaining any passenger volume that moved to SFO or OAK 2. Working with airlines, the city's economic development team and local business leaders to develop more direct flights and more frequency of certain destinations to better serve one of the largest cities in the US 3. Finding the right solution that better connects SJC with the customers/passengers wanting to use it.

Question applies to
Airport Commission
What can the Airport do to balance its obligations as a “good neighbor” and as a world- class international
airport for Silicon Valley?
If there is a conflict in achieving an appropriate
balance, how would you resolve it?
One way an airport can be seen as a "good neighbor" is to be the economic generator for the region.
Airports connect people and with that connection comes jobs, commerce, opportunity and community development.
Additionally, being a "good neighbor" is providing these opportunities in a sustainable way.
Airports need to do all they can to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are in their control.
This would
include airport vehicles and encouraging airlines to electrify their ramp/apron service vehicles by developing the infrastructure to support that change.
Additionally, airports need to develop policies
ensuring all facilities meet or exceed certain LEED criteria.
Question applies to
Airport Commission
What can the City of San José and the Airport do to engage Silicon Valley business leaders and other
communities to support the Airport’s efforts to increase air service and add routes to SJC? What can you do
personally to help achieve this goal?
Airlines need to see the economic value of adding/increasing service to a particular airport, or they need to see the strategic value that airport brings them.
That takes a well-coordinated campaign that includes
business leaders, the city's economic development team, chambers of commerce and event planners, and airport staff.
Airlines need to see the city, and by default, the airport as a leisure destination or a business destination.
I would contend San Jose offers both.
Additionally, it takes a commitment from the
local business community to choose SJC over SFO and OAK.
And lastly, I'd like to think the connections
I've made throughout the industry could be useful in working with airlines, consultants and other cities/airports in finding solutions to our service concerns.

Anything else you would like us to know?
My wife and I have now moved to San Jose and find the area and the people breathtaking.
SJC has
become our home airport and one of the most convenient I've experienced.
Although I have remained in
the transportation space (now on the transit side), I simply would like to use my experience within the airport space to help SJC and the city leverage all it can to make this place even better.
I appreciate your
consideration for this opportunity and will look to help out any way I can.

Please describe your experience in serving on a Commission or Board.
I served on the neighborhood commission that has had difficult meeting during and post Covid-19. Sadly, they have suspended that particular commission and is working to see what would be a better match for the City of San Jose. In order to be able to assist the community and serve as best we can all members must attend and participate to reach quorum and to get feedback and yield best results out of each commission and committee. I have really enjoyed working with the various commissioners over the years and been honored to serve the City of San Jose.
Considering your experience and activities in business, labor, School, professional, social, Commissions, Boards, or other organizations, indicate the experience, training, knowledge and/or skills which qualify you for appointment.
Working with Labor and servings as a delegate for the South Bay Labor Council and building trades it helps be a well rounded individual as I can see how projects will impact the labor force. As a community volunteer since a child assisting in the neighborhood clean up and taking my time volunteering during the last major San Jose Floods disaster; I know how first hand Measure T would benefit the City of San Jose and safeguarding all of us. Having served as a neighborhood commissioner I am familiar how the neighborhood associations work and feel that would be an asset to this position to bring a voice from the communities to this committee.

(Optional) Please upload a resume.
What is your understanding of the purpose of the Commission? The Measure T Community Oversight Committee serves as an advisory committee to the City Council.
It
reviews the expenditure of Measure T funds to ascertain consistency with the voter approved purposes for the funds.
In connection with the review of Measure T expenditures, review and forward to the City Council an audit of the Measure T Bonds Financial Statements for the fiscal year ending June 30th as well as the Director of Finance’s annual report on the amount of Bonds issued and the amount of ad valorem tax collected for each prior fiscal year ending June 30th; and review the status of projects funded with Measure T funds and forward a status report on the pending Measure T projects to the City Council.
Please list three issues facing the City that you feel the Council should address.
Safety, disaster preparedness and blight.
