Recommendation #4
18 6. SAIU CHALLENGES AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
19 Challenges
• Currently, the Lieutenants in SAIU and Special Victims Unit (SVU) rely on one analyst to supply data to make
data-informed decisions
– SAIU submitted a Budget Proposal in 2023 to fund an additional analyst in SAIU to further support the SAKI grant project which requires a dedicated analyst
• The testing of the backlog of untested SAFE kits posed a number of resource limitations and challenges for the
Department
– The increase in re-opening historical cases with unsubmitted kits will be an additional load on the current Detectives. 20 Moving Forward
• SAIU will continue to partner with Crime Prevention
Unit Specialists to provide Prevention and Intervention services to communities experiencing higher levels of
abuse.
• SAIU will continue to apply for future funding to
increase the capacity and resources of SAIU to
complete the SAKI project
