Purpose:

The Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance collaborates with mayors and cities throughout the Americas to offer executive education and coaching. This initiative focuses on utilizing data to enhance local government functions, innovate public services, and achieve better results for residents. This includes improving healthcare access, rethinking waste management, increasing affordable housing, and addressing homelessness. The comprehensive support provided through the City Data Alliance enables mayors and their senior teams to deepen their data usage for informed decisionmaking, system transformation, impact assessment, and effective communication of results.

Going to the City Data Alliance convening will open the potential for our city to be selected as a part of this alliance. Being a part of this alliance would allow the Mayor to share our city’s learnings from our current innovative endeavors. Connecting with Bloomberg and their support will better inform and refine our own data processes, leading to improved outcomes for our residents, for projects like our city’s data dashboards. In building our city’s “civic sandbox”, it will be imperative to collaborate with other cities and get expert guidance on how to responsibly and best advance work around emerging technologies like AI to ensure maximum benefits for San Jose residents.
