SUBJECT: Update to the August – December 2024 Community and Economic Development Committee Work Plan
RECOMMENDATION
Approve an amendment to the August – December 2024 Community and Economic Development Committee Work Plan to drop the following item from the August 26, 2024, Community and Economic Development Committee meeting agenda.
Berryessa Flea Market Status Report.
Purpose: Provide a status report on the redevelopment of the Berryessa Flea Market, as well as the Flea Market Advisory Group and Vendor Transition Fund, consistent with City Council direction provided in June 2021. (Economic Development and Cultural Affairs/Planning, Building and Code Enforcement)
BACKGROUND
In alignment with City Council direction in 2021, staff provides regular updates to the Community and Economic Development Committee on the status of the Berryessa Flea Market. The last update was provided on October 23, 2023. Since then, Berryessa Flea Market ownership announced that the flea market will not close until January 1, 2026, at the earliest. Staff continues to work closely with the Berryessa Flea vendor community to support their needs and facilitate transition options.
Analyses and reports, including an economic and cultural report, market operations research report, and alternative site analysis report, are currently being finalized. Staff anticipates reviewing the reports with the Flea Market Advisory Group at its next meeting in September 2024. Therefore, staff recommends dropping this item from the August 26, 2024, Community and Economic Development Committee agenda and RULES AGENDA: 8/14/24
