BACKGROUND
On February 1, 2005, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 72517 which requires Councilmembers to submit a memorandum to the Rules Committee regarding proposed City Council sponsored Special Events and the proposed use of any funds.
A Conversation With Author Karla Cornejo Villavicencio will be held on November 14, 2024, at the San José City Hall Rotunda and sponsored by Vice Mayor and Councilmember Rosemary Kamei. This special event, organized by Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (MACLA), is a conversation with National Book Award finalist Karla Cornejo Villavicencio to discuss her experience as an undocumented person and Harvard graduate. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Jose Antonio Vargas. This event destigmatizes undocumented community members and advances their rights by facilitating discussion of their experiences and belonging. It also attracts interested community members to downtown San José, leading to increased commercial and cultural activity. The event is free and open to the public.
