RECOMMENDATION
1. Accept Councilmember Jimenez’s recommendation to agendize a discussion for November 19, 2024 on the replacement method for filling the District 3 Council seat without pre-determining a preferred method or timing; and
2. Direct the City Clerk and City Attorney to prepare accompanying memos that outline the Council’s options for filling the vacant seat.
DISCUSSION
Omar Torres’ recent resignation will leave the District 3 Council seat vacant effective November 27, 2024. We agree the Council should understand and weigh in on all of the options for filling the District 3 Council seat. However, the Rules Committee should not decide on a particular outcome or timetable before the entire Council has engaged in a discussion.
