San Jose City Council
200 East Santa Clara Street
San Jose, CA 95113
Dear Mayor and San Jose City Councilmembers:

The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce is writing to express its support for the proposed Good Samaritan Hospital Expansion and Retro
fit Project. We understand the critical role
that Good Samaritan Hospital plays in delivering essential healthcare services not only to San Jose but also to Los Gatos and neighboring communities. This project is vital for ensuring that the hospital can continue to provide these services while also complying with California’s mandatory seismic safety requirements by 2030.

The redevelopment of Good Samaritan is not just a healthcare necessity but also a signi
ficant economic driver. The project will create jobs, attract new residents and professionals, and generate tax revenue—all of which support the regional economy, including Los Gatos. Many of our residents rely on Good Samaritan for their healthcare needs, and we believe that delaying the project could jeopardize access to the high-quality care we all depend on, especially at a time when healthcare is more critical than ever.

We acknowledge the concerns raised by community members, particularly regarding the hospital’s decisions to discontinue services at other facilities and its impact on healthcare equity. We strongly urge Good Samaritan and HCA Healthcare to continue engaging with stakeholders to ensure that community concerns are addressed as part of the project.

In the end, delaying the seismic upgrades and expansion risks the closure of a vital healthcare institution that serves the entire region, including Los Gatos. We support this project to ensure that Good Samaritan remains operational and continues to provide comprehensive healthcare services for decades to come.

Respectfully,
The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
