Subject: Support of the BID for the Monterey Corridor

Date: December 6, 2024
Dear Mayor Matt Mahan and City Council Members,
I am writing to voice my strong support for the proposed Business Improvement District (BID) for the Monterey Corridor. Since the mid-1980s, Premier Recycle Company has proudly operated and been deeply rooted in th e Monterey Corridor region, serving the community for nearly four decades and spanning multiple generations. We firmly believe this initiative will greatly contribute to the revitalization, safety, and economic prosperity of this crucial area.

Investing in the Monterey Corridor through the proposed BID is crucial for the continued prosperity of San Jose.

This region is a key industrial, manufacturing, and commercial hub, home to approximately 1,500 businesses and the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, serving as a vital entryway to Downtown San Jose. By supporting the BID, we are not only enhancing the Monterey Corridor but also contributing to the long-term success of this entire city.

The BID will fund essential services and improvements aimed at fostering economic growth and benefiting the wider San Jose community. Key initiatives include:
• Enhanced Safety and Security: Increased presence of security and off-duty officers, partnerships with the San José Police Department, and quick responses to issues like illegal dumping. • Improved Maintenance and Cleanliness: Services such as litter removal, graffiti abatement, and sidewalk pressure washing to enhance the area’s appeal.
• Promotional and Marketing Activities: Online campaigns, brochures, and community events to attract customers and boost visibility for local businesses.

These efforts will drive economic growth in San Jose by creating a safer, cleaner, and more vibrant environment for businesses, customers, and community members alike. The benefits of the BID will extend well beyond the Monterey Corridor, positively impacting the broader San Jose community.

I strongly urge you to consider the many advantages of the BID and vote in favor of this important initiative. Your support will play a key role in the long-term success of our city.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,
Premier Recycle Company

Subject: Letter of Support for Monterey Corridor Business Association (MCBA)’s Business Improvement District Proposal

Dear Honorable Members of the San Jose City Council,

I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for MCBA and their efforts to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) in the Monterey Corridor. As a community member of San Jose, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that thoughtful, community-driven initiatives like this can have on our city.

MCBA has been a dedicated advocate for Clean & Safe initiatives, economic revitalization, community engagement, & public safety. Their commitment to fostering collaboration among local businesses, enhancing public spaces, and improving the overall vibrancy of our community has been evident through their efforts in bringing the community together, hosting events, painting murals & beautification projects, & business outreach.

The proposed BID is a promising step toward addressing the unique needs of our area.

By pooling resources from local businesses and stakeholders, this initiative would enable sustainable improvements, including:
• Increased safety measures such as better lighting and regular maintenance of public spaces.
• Beautification projects to enhance the appeal of the area and attract more foot traffic. • Economic development efforts that support local businesses and encourage new investments.
• Community-building programs that strengthen connections among residents, businesses, and visitors.

In a city as dynamic and diverse as San Jose, establishing a BID in the Monterey Corridor aligns with the City’s broader goals of economic growth, inclusivity, and sustainability. MCBA has demonstrated their ability to serve as an effective steward of these efforts, and I am confident that their leadership will make the BID a success.

I urge the Council to approve MCBA’s BID proposal. This initiative is not just an investment in our local economy but also in the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits our community.

Thank you for your consideration, and for your continued efforts to support local initiatives that enhance the fabric of San Jose.

Sincerely,
Dave Lujan
Secretary for the MCBA

To Whom It May Concern:

I am the property owner at Over the past 21 years we have seen a severe deterioration of the business environment due to the crime, harassment and filth created by the homeless community and RV’s. The local business community is struggling to contend with the many problems inflicted on it by this unsheltered community such as renting out our buildings, providing an inviting environment for customers and a safe environment for our employees.

I believe that the money raised by the BID will help to address some of these serious issues and to make the Monterey Corridor an attractive area for businesses to locate and thrive.

I support the BID and encourage the councilmembers to vote “yes”.

Best regards,
Beth Seibert

Monterey Corridor Business Associaon

You don't often get email from . Learn why this is important Dear Mayor and City Council,

As a property and business owner in the Monterey Corridor, we feel it is important to invest in our city and district to ensure that we have clean, safe and vibrant corridors in our city. I am in support of such endeavors for many reasons, as I know the importance of how this investment can attract many benefits, such as:

Economic Growth and Revitalization: A Business Improvement District (BID) helps stimulate local economic development by improving infrastructure, enhancing public spaces, and attracting businesses, which in turn boosts property values and promotes job creation.

Enhanced Services and Public Amenities: BIDs provide additional services, such as cleaning, security, and marketing, that go beyond what local governments offer, creating a cleaner, safer, and more appealing environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

Collaboration and Community Engagement: BIDs foster a sense of community by enabling businesses to work together on common goals, pooling resources to address challenges, advocate for policy changes, and create a shared vision for the district's growth and sustainability.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with our business associaon and the City of San Jose to beer our city.

Sincerely

Sean
