ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE Advisory Committee
SUBJECT: San Jose Clean Energy Programs DATE: 2/24/25 Roadmap Status Report
______________________________________________________________________________
Your Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) would like to submit the following comments on the "San Jose Clean Energy Programs Status Report":
• We appreciate our City’s Climate Smart goals for energy, water, transportation, and local jobs.
• We hereby remind you of the following: In November 2021, our City Council set a goal of communitywide carbon neutrality by 2030, thereby accelerating our City’s Climate Smart program. At this meeting our Councilmembers also approved the initiative called Pathway to Carbon Neutrality by 2030 The year 2030 is five years from now.
• Please enable our City’s upcoming budget to fund the programs that have a proven record of reducing carbon emissions, that improve air quality, that reduce other pollutants, and reduce the gasoline and electricity that’s used to power motorized vehicles.
• These are our City’s Vision Zero program; the Annual Bikeways Program; Better Bike Plan 2025; Transit First, Vehicle Miles Traveled goals, and the programs that maintain our bikeways, trails, and pedestrian safety accommodations. These programs not only get us closer to carbon neutrality.
• These programs enable individuals of all ages and abilities to walk, wheelchair, and bicycle safely within our City. Thank you.
These comments were appoved unanimously at the February 24, 2025 BPAC meeting.
Sincerely,
Aarshdeep Kahlon, Chairperson
