Re: SUPPORT Item 6.1 – Electrification Workforce Development Programs / EcoHome High-Road Contractor
Badge
Initiative
Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
On behalf of the CCA Workforce & Environmental Justice Alliance, we write in support of Item 6.1, including
the
EcoHome
High-Road
Contractor
Badge
Initiative.
We see this badge as a good first step toward ensuring that San José’s electrification efforts elevate high-road
contractors
and
create
pathways
to
quality
jobs.
While
we
are
not
requesting
amendments
at
this
time,
we
believe
there
will
be
opportunities
to
strengthen
the
program
as
it
matures.
We respectfully urge the Council to direct a review after one year to evaluate how effectively the badge is working
to
distinguish
and
reward
high-road
contractors
and
expand
opportunities
for
workers.
We appreciate the City’s leadership in linking clean energy investments to high-road workforce standards, and
we
look
forward
to
seeing
San
José’s
experience
inform
best
practices
across
the
region.
Sincerely,
Eric Veium, Tim Frank, & Leslie Austin Co-directors, CCA Workforce & EJ Alliance
