As I have worked with the Roundtable Neighborhood Association, I have seen the complaints of the people firsthand and I know what some frequent issues are. I have been a member for many years and I am able to speak up for our community.
What is your understanding of the purpose of the Commission? To work together as a team and help out the community and listen to the problems of the people.
Please list three issues facing the City that you feel the Council should address.
Traffic concerns regarding speeding, the rise in unaffordable housing, people being afraid to contact emergency services due to their current immigration status.
Describe recent San José arts activities you have participated in during the last twelve months (up to five activities) and what drew you to attend? Dumpster events and litter pickups. I felt drawn to attend because I believe the beautification of our neighborhoods and communities should be a something that we take pride in and work towards.
Describe the ways in which you believe the arts bring value to the general community, and what role should the City of an Jose have in arts and cultural development.
The arts are important to the general community because they bring joy to the people.
Murals help ward off graffiti as people are less inclined to vandalize them. The arts help keep people safe in this way, however they also can bring together different cultures and represent these on a large scale to help people feel included. The City of San Jose should have programs or grants where they provide financial support to the community for the arts.
Should the City of San José have an active role in arts and cultural development? If so, in what ways and why?
I do think that the City of San Jose should have an active role in arts and cultural development because if people see that the city is supporting these things, then the community can come together more often and see that there is validation in preserving the arts and cultural development. The city can create programs for painters, performers, actors, etc. to be able to express themselves and provide financial support to them.
How can you contribute to advising City Council on policy and programs related to cultural development in San José?
