NOTICE OF PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY’S (PG&E) RATE CHANGE REQUEST FOR ITS 2026-2030 ELECTRIC PROGRAM INVESTMENT CHARGE (EPIC) INVESTMENT PLAN APPLICATION TO THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (CPUC) A.26-08-015 What is Being Requested?
The EPIC Program supports research, development and demonstration of new technologies that help provide safe, reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy for electric customers.
PG&E is requesting an additional $8.342 million in funding for its EPIC 5 Investment Plan to support research and projects that advance new energy technologies and help California move toward a more affordable and equitable clean energy future.' The EPIC Program funds early-stage technologies that benefit customers. These projects can lead to new tools that increase system capacity, extend the life of equipment and help keep rates lower for all customers.
Direct Access (DA) and Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) customers receive electric transmission, distribution and select Commission-ordered services from PG&E. If this application is approved, on average, rates for services provided by PG&E to these customers would increase by 0.01% compared to current rates. DA providers and CCAs set their own generation rates. Check with your DA provider or CCA to learn how this would impact your overall bill.
How Would This Impact the Typical Residential Customer? If the request is approved, a typical residential customer using 500 kWh per month would see a rate increase of approximately $.02 per month. The actual impact will vary based on usage, baseline territory and other factors.

' This program is funded by California utility customers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. CPUC Decisions D. 21-11-028 and D.26-02-037 allow all EPIC Administrators to propose increasing their EPIC 5 (2026-2030) budgets by the rate of inflation, as calculated using the California Department of Finance’s California Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) method. D.26-02-037 requires EPIC Administrators to return program interest from their EPIC budgets to customers annually and return unspent and unencumbered funds to customers at the end of each program cycle.
