A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
JOSE AUTHORIZING “FREE USE” OF THE JANET GRAY
HAYES ROTUNDA FOR THE PRIVATE, TICKETED
ANNUAL CONVERSATIONS FOR GOOD 2026 EVENT
SCHEDULED ON NOVEMBER 6, 2026
WHEREAS, in June 2019, the Council of the City of San José (“City”) adopted Resolution No. 79138 for the fees and charges for use of City Hall Facility and Plaza Use; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 79138, Section 13.080, limits free use of the City’s facilities to each City Department and Council Office for events that 1) qualify as official City business; 2) are free and open to the public; 3) occur on a Sunday through Friday; and 4) are booked thirty (30) days in advance; and
WHEREAS, Council District 6 Councilmember Michael Mulcahy will sponsor the private, invitation-only Conversations for Good 2026 event at the Janet Gray Hayes Rotunda on Friday, November 6, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 79138 does not apply to free use requests for events which are private and not open to the public, and therefore, City Council approval is necessary to authorize free use of the Rotunda for the Conversations for Good 2026 event; and WHEREAS, Conversations for Good began in November 2023 in San José bringing together technologists, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and innovators for an evening of conversation focused on imagination in action, artificial intelligence, and the transformative possibilities that emerge when innovative ideas are put into practice; and SAW:NXN:JMD

WHEREAS, the City finds that the Conversations for Good 2026 event qualifies as official City business because it supports the City's goals related to economic development, innovation, sustainability, community engagement, and activation of Downtown San José, and creates a forum for entrepreneurs, technologists, and businesses regarding Regenerative Future centering energy, water, and land, and supports the City's efforts to encourage innovation, foster connections among regional leaders, and promote the continued vitality of the downtown area; and WHEREAS, the City desires to approve the free use of the Janet Gray Hayes Rotunda for the Conversations for Good 2026 even on Friday, November 6, 2026;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JOSE THAT:
The City Council hereby authorizes “Free Use” of the Janet Gray Hayes Rotunda for the private, ticketed annual Conversations for Good 2026 event scheduled for November 6, 2026, sponsored by Council District 6 Councilmember Michael Mulcahy, because it supports the City's goals related to economic development, innovation, sustainability, community engagement and the activation of Downtown San José, and supports the City's efforts to encourage innovation, foster connections among regional leaders, and promote the continued vitality of the downtown area.
