Park size and open space: The proposed park is far too small. What this community needs is more open space, not more concrete. Turning this site into a dense cluster of homes with a token park is the wrong use of the land.
Beyond these specific issues, I want to register my frustration with how this property has been managed. The former Glider Elementary School has sat closed and boarded up for years. A vacant, neglected building is exactly what invites the crime and misbehavior that were raised as concerns at the Planning Commission. During all that time, the property could have been leased and generating income. I understand there was at least one offer to lease the site, and it was not accepted. Renting it out, to a church or another community use, would have kept the property active, safe, and productive. Instead, it was left to deteriorate.
It is deeply disappointing that the decisions here appear to have been driven by money rather than by what is best for the community and the families who actually live here. I respectfully urge the City to reconsider this project and to seek an alternative use for the site that preserves open space and better serves the existing neighborhood.
Thank you for considering my comments and entering them into the record for this project.
Sincerely,
Christopher Koehler
