Presentation Overview
Redistricting is the process by which political district lines, be they congressional districts at the federal level or council districts at the local level, are redrawn to accommodate disproportionate population growth within each district.
What is redistricting?
The City of San Leandro’s Charter (section 230) mandates new districts if Census population counts change by five percent or more. The City’s population increased from 84,950 to 91,008 between 2010 and 2020, an increase of 7.13%.
The population growth was unevenly distributed between the current Council Districts.
Why redistrict?
