City Of SanLeandro
Sonic is proposing MICROTRENCHING
to expand the City of San Leandro service area.
PRESENT CHALLENGES IN EXPANDING BROADBAND ACCESS CITY WIDE Presently deploying using
Aerial Fiber from poles for
Residential.
Certain areas of the city do
not have (accessible) poles to
utilize.
Cost of construction using
legacy trenching methods is
prohibitive.
In order to provide top quality
service at a best in industry price,
alternative methods are required.
City of San Leandro and Sonic Partnership
1. Assure access to all poles (specifically Rear Easement) through joint efforts with Sonic, up to and including any requested escorts provided by the city to access the poles
2. Allow bypass poles in all areas if any poles require re‐engineering due to capacity levels. Work with Sonic in order to have the Pole owner (e.g. power company) to replace the unsafe poles in a timely manner.
3. Streamline process for permitting and offer blanket permitting for Aerial and MicroTrench deployments and have permits issued within a month and a process for minimizing inspection fees
4. Work with Sonic on establishing a MicroTrench specification that would be efficient and economically feasible
5. Work with Sonic on design of future Public Works projects from the city for portions not covered via Aerial deployment to assure access to units in the area Roving Traffic Control
