July as Na�onal Park and Recrea�on Month
WHEREAS, parks and recrea�on are an integral part of communi�es throughout this country, including the City of San Leandro; and
WHEREAS, parks and recrea�on promote health and wellness, improving the physical and mental health of people; and
WHEREAS, parks and recrea�on promote �me spent in nature, which posi�vely impacts mental health by increasing cogni�ve performance and well-being, and allevia�ng illnesses such as depression, aten�on deficit disorders, and Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, parks and recrea�on encourage physical ac�vity by providing space for sports, hiking trails, swimming pools and many other ac�vi�es designed to promote ac�ve lifestyles; and WHEREAS, parks and recrea�on programming and educa�on ac�vi�es, such as out-of-school �me programming, youth sports and environmental educa�on, are cri�cal to childhood development; and
WHEREAS, our parks and natural recrea�on areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representa�ves has designated July as Parks and Recrea�on Month; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro recognizes the benefits derived from parks and recrea�on resources; and
WHEREAS, our parks and recrea�on department is a leading provider of healthy meals, nutri�on services and educa�on.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan González III, Mayor of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim the month of July as Park and Recrea�on Month in the City of San Leandro.
