What is Dark Fiber?
• Dark fiber refers to fiber optic networks with no existing service or traffic running on the fiber strands
• Unlike “lit” fiber (metro ethernet or wavelength services), dark fiber provides a truly private network, giving customers control over their bandwidth capacity in addition to low latency and high security
• Customers can lease dark fiber from companies like BandwidthIG who own the underlying infrastructure (conduit and fiber) and maintain the network • Improves connectivity by expanding reliable and high‐speed internet access for households, businesses, academic institutions, etc.
• Attracts enterprises that rely on reliable and fast data connections for their operations which stimulates economic growth, creates jobs, and bolsters the local tax base • Facilitates remote work and learning opportunities by enabling network connectivity for professionals and students, regardless of location
• Enhances Smart City initiatives by delivering the digital infrastructure required to handle extensive data exchange
