IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
RESOLUTION NO. 2026-XXX
RESOLUTION TO APPOINT ______________ TO FILL THE DISTRICT 2 VACANCY ON THE CITY COUNCIL WHEREAS, having been duly elected on November 5, 2024, District 2 Council Member Byan Azevedo resigned from the City Council effective February 10, 2026, causing a vacancy to exist on the City Council; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 250 of the Charter of the City of San Leandro, a vacancy in the office of Council Member or Mayor shall be filled by appointment by the Council within sixty days after its existence; and
WHEREAS, the appointee shall hold office until the next general municipal election and until a successor is elected and qualified, and any unexpired remainder of the term of such office shall be filled by the voters at such election; and
WHEREAS, on February 17, 2026, the City Council declared its intention to fill the District 2 Council vacancy by appointment, approved the process and timeline for filling the vacancy, and directed staff to provide public notice of the vacancy and application process; and WHEREAS, twelve applications were submitted by members of the public, of which seven were eligible to be considered for the vacancy by meeting the residency and voter registration requirements in Section 205 of the Charter of the City of San Leandro; and WHEREAS, on March 23, 2026, Council interviewed the applicants and discussed nominations, resulting in ____________________ being nominated to fill the District 2 vacancy on the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City of San Leandro City Council does RESOLVE as follows:
That ______________________________ is appointed to the City Council to fill the District 2 vacancy caused by the resignation of Bryan Azevedo, to a term expiring December 31, 2026, and until a successor is elected and qualified.
