What We’ve
Heard
18 FTC - May 14, 2026
Reducing barriers and improving connectivity and
comfort are top priorities for community members
Safety and personal security
concerns are a barrier to
travel
The auto-dominated landscape
creates safety barriers to
walking and biking
Convenient and safe access
to BART and major
destinations is limited
The bike network is
disconnected and stressful
to navigate
Structural barriers restrict
equitable transportation access
Streets should be inviting
community spaces
19 FTC - May 14, 2026
Reducing barriers and improving connectivity are
key priorities for Bay Fair CBTP participants
Safety &
Personal
Security
“Elders walk with
someone else for
safety—it's not
just about
sidewalks, it’s
about feeling
secure.”
Walking &
Biking
Barriers
"E. 14th St and
Hesperian Blvd -
they feel like
highways….I
never walk or
bike there (and if
I had to bike, I'd
bike on the
sidewalk)”
Access to
BART &
Destinations
“I've come from
E14th trying to
get to the Bay
Fair BART station
and because only
one side was
equipped with a
sidewalk, I found
myself walking
along the road”
Bike
Network
Connectivity
“Getting from
Foothill to San
Leandro Blvd is
awkward for
bikes - no good
bike lanes"
Equitable
Access
"We need trusted
ambassadors—in
Spanish, in
Tagalog—to walk
people through
the system."
I would love to
have the area be
more welcoming
…like greening/
beautification…an
d more pedestrian
friendly so more
families will want
go out and about
…with their
children.
