San Marcos Girls Softball League Inc. July 2019 July 2024 Registrar, Secretary Auxiliary Organizations Association 2013 Current Executive Committee Member Executive Director, Associated Students, Inc. of CSUSM 2013 Current Higher Education University of Nevada, Las Vegas 2009 2012 Doctor of Philosophy, Educational Leadership California State University, Long Beach 2001 2003 Master of Science, Student Development & Business I have experienced firsthand the many park amenities of our beautiful city. I have a 12 year old daughter who has attended summer recreational programs and day camps at the community center and Jacks Pond, Boys And Girls Club, and San Elijo Center. She is now a tween and loves to ride her bike at Walnut Grove, and has played for 4 years for the San Marcos Girls Softball who practice at Bradley Fields. She attended Twin Oaks Elementary and is now at Woodland Park Middle School; we have enjoyed visiting playgrounds, hiking trails, soccer fields, our two city swimming pools and we have taken a few fun classes together through the city.

I joined the City of San Marcos hiking program in 2021 and enjoyed hiking the P mountain, the views from Double Peak, the nature sounds at Discovery Lake and building community with fellow hikers.

As a current University Administrator, avid hiker and biker, and Master Gardener, I have expertise in facilities and budget management, plant knowledge, landscape design, and the unique needs of walkers, runners, hikers, and cyclists.

I would like to see the hiking and trails programs expand to meet the needs of people with different abilities like families with young children, and seniors or people with accessibility issues. I would also like to help expand information and outreach materials about recreation to our Spanish speaking communities.

The most interesting aspect for me is that the commission gets to shape the recreational opportunities and facilities for our diverse community.

As a Dad to active kids, I spend a lot of time in our community whether at the parks and sports fields for baseball / softball / soccer / swim practice, as well as driving on the busy streets to get there. I see first hand the quality of the park facilities and the streets and see that they need additional attention. While none of us are a fan of tax increases, it is now important that the revenue from Measure Q is used responsibly, and as you can see from my experience, I am more than qualified to step up to this task.

Measure Q Citizens Oversight needs experienced leaders with strong analytical skills and from my experience
you can see that I am the ideal candidate having led diverse people and projects worldwide.

WHAT CITY PROGRAMS/PROJECTS WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IMPROVED OR IMPLEMENTED?

Planning Commission City of San Marcos 1 Civic Center Drive San Marcos, CA 92069 Dear Members of the Planning Commission,
I am writing to express my strong support and keen interest in the planning program aimed at further developing the educational institutions and medical facilities within the City of San Marcos. As a resident deeply invested in the growth and prosperity of our community, I believe that enhancing these key sectors will significantly benefit both current and future generations.

The City of San Marcos is fortunate to be home to esteemed educational institutions such as the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), San Marcos Campus, Palomar College, and San Augustine Medical College. These institutions have a profound impact on our community, fostering academic excellence, research innovation, and workforce development. I propose that we further invest in these educational pillars by expanding their facilities, enhancing research capabilities, and increasing accessibility to higher education for all residents. By doing so, we can attract more students, faculty, and researchers, thereby strengthening our city's reputation as a hub of academic excellence.

Moreover, the development of our medical facilities is equally crucial. Establishments such as Sharp Hospital, Scripps Clinic, and other local healthcare providers play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our residents. I advocate for the expansion and modernization of these medical facilities to meet the growing healthcare demands of our community. By incorporating state-of-the-art technology, recruiting top medical professionals, and enhancing patient care services, we can ensure that San Marcos remains at the forefront of healthcare innovation.

In conclusion, the coordinated development of our city's educational and medical facilities will have a lasting positive impact on our community. I urge the Planning Commission to consider these proposals and work towards creating a comprehensive plan that supports the continued growth and development of San Marcos. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

MOST INTERESTING ASPECT OF THIS COMMISSION TO YOU?

Here are some of the most interesting aspects of a planning commission:

1. Community Development: Planning commissions play a crucial role in shaping the growth and development of communities. They review and approve proposals for new developments, ensuring they align with the community's vision and goals.

2. Zoning and Land Use: One of the key responsibilities is to oversee zoning regulations and land use policies.

This involves designating areas for residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational purposes, balancing the needs of different stakeholders.

3. Sustainability and Environmental Planning: Many planning commissions focus on sustainable development practices. They work to incorporate green building standards, renewable energy initiatives, and environmental conservation efforts into urban planning.

4. Public Engagement: Engaging with the community is a vital part of the planning process. Planning commissions often hold public meetings and hearings to gather input from residents, ensuring that development plans reflect the community's needs and desires.

5. Economic Development: Planning commissions often collaborate with local businesses and organizations to promote economic growth. They help create opportunities for job creation, attract new businesses, and support existing ones.

6. Infrastructure and Transportation: Ensuring that infrastructure and transportation systems can support new developments is another key aspect. This includes planning for roads, public transit, utilities, and other essential services.

7. Historic Preservation: Preserving the cultural and historical heritage of a community is often a priority.

Planning commissions work to protect historic landmarks and districts while accommodating new growth.

8. Housing and Affordable Living: Addressing housing needs and ensuring access to affordable housing is a critical concern. Planning commissions develop policies to promote diverse housing options and combat issues like housing shortages and gentrification.

These aspects make the work of planning commissions both challenging and rewarding, as they balance various interests to create vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive communities

Deep interest in continuing the good work done by City in maintaining a workable circulation element in conjunction with developing opportunities for increased walkability, public transit, and options for bicyclists that balance the need for continuing support for automotive traffic as it currently exists.

I am always impressed by how dedicated our City staff are to ensuring the public's ability to participate and understand the "why" behind decision-making for traffic and circulation - continuing my service would allow me further opportunity to support this important work.

I manage the finances for a small hydro-electric generator and have some familiarity with community choice energy. I have worked in local government for 12 years, am a Certified Internal Auditor and am certified as a Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator with the State of California.

I am curious to learn more about the role of the city or the Clean Energy Alliance in educating homeowners about solar install. Also, I am mindful of the risks of battery fires as local energy storage becomes more prevalent. I would like to see more consumer education in these areas.

I am most interested in how the city is balancing operational and budget constraints with compliance with CARB 's Advanced Green Fleets regulation.

I was appointed a due diligence lead for the 2024 San Diego Angel Conference (SDAC). In that role, I organized a team of angel investors to to complete SDAC's a month long due diligence activity with one of the finalist companies. Our team produced a 30+ page report of our findings, which I presented to the conference. When the conference completed, I joined the NuFund Venture Group, which is an early stage investor g roup based here in San Diego.

Professionally, I have over a decade experience in the biotech industry and have been managing a team for over two year. I completed my MBA online earlier this year, which included courses in finances and governance.

Personally, my husband and I are raising two girls (aged 8 and 11) who both attend San Marcos Unified Schools, and we've appreciated and enjoyed the many services that the city provides, including community events and the many parks.

I would love to support the City of San Marcos in it's mission through participation in any one of the commissions. In particular, I appreciate the San Marcos Community Foundation's mission to seek and support a variety of nonprofit groups that enrich this community. I would love to apply my education and recent experience in due diligence to help this commission to continue to execute on this purpose.

Overall, I think the city is doing a good job on their mission to improve the quality of life of those who live, work or visit San Marcos.

As the students / faculty live or work here, it would be great to see additional and joint activitis between the city and our local colleges (Palomar and CSUSM).

I think there may be some joint objectives around especially around small business creation/support and the city's climate action plan that partnerships could help achieve.
