Park Naming Subcommittee Recommendations
June 18, 2025
The Parks and Recreation Commission selected a sub-committee to review community input in selecting a name for the planned public park located within the North City area. The City received 26 responses from the public, offering a variety of name suggestions for consideration.
In alignment with the City’s naming guidelines for parks, the sub-committee ruled out submissions that proposed the names of individuals. The remaining responses were evaluated based on their reflection of geographic or cultural characteristics of the surrounding area. The committee further assessed the suitability of each name by considering clarity of use, relevance to the park’s anticipated layout and amenities, and distinctiveness from other parks across the city.
Based on this review, the committee recommends the following four names for consideration by the Commission:
Cascade Hills Park
Hillside Park
Horizon Hills Park
Sky View Park
These names were selected for their intuitive connection to the park’s topography, setting, and planned features, while ensuring they are not easily confused with existing park names in San Marcos. Each name captures a defining element of the park’s location and visual landscape.
The committee also remains open to reviewing additional suggestions from the community, should further submissions be received.
