Hi Andrea and Sara,
As you know, we notified the city back on April 21st, that the Lake San Marcos Kiwanis Club and Foundation had made the difficult decision that we could no longer host the parade after 28 years.
We explained our decision and hoped the city would be able to find another host for the parade by giving them notice in April. Of course, we offered to provide the new host with whatever information and experience we had to make the transition easier for everyone.
A few weeks ago, you reached out to explore the possibility of our club hosting the parade in 2026 to give the city more time to find a new host. After a couple meetings, multiple emails, and several phone calls, we feel that you both did a superb job presenting what I’m calling the “3 Ps” – the potential for funding from the city, the possibility of gathering volunteers through the Boys & Girls Club’s network, and the proposal of alternate routes for the parade.
Our members and our Board of Directors met on Tuesday and focused on a thorough review and discussion of all the issues.
After careful consideration of all the information you provided, a vote was taken and confirmed that we will stand by our April decision not to host the parade. The issues we stated in our first letter have not changed, and the route change proposals added to those issues. The “3 Ps” that we discussed have not changed our decision. As much as we want to see this tradition continue, we can no longer host the parade.
Again, we will be happy to share information and experiences with the new host, whether the new host comes on board this year or next year.
Thank you for your extra efforts on behalf of the city and for the city’s many years of support for the parade. We are confident you will find a new host to carry on this tradition.
Thank you,
Carrie Clevers
