Description of General Fund Costs
With the increase in availability of plug-in hybrid and pure electric passenger vehicles, as well as upcoming legislation pertaining to these vehicles, providing charging stations would provide benefit to patrons visiting Lacy Park, the Crowell Public Library, San Marino Center, and City Hall. Given that the City will be required by the State to purchase zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV) in the future, having the infrastructure already in place to charge the vehicles would be advantageous to move towards the fleet electrification requirements. The first potential location identified by staff is at the City Hall campus. Given the location of existing power sources, charging stations could be installed in both the public parking lot as well as the staff parking lot. This would enable members of the public to utilize the stations as well as City staff as the City begins incorporating more electric vehicles into its fleet. After the completion of the installation at this location, staff will assess other potential public locations to include for future years.

Cost estimates for the project are roughly $150,000 as it would include the installation of the charging stations as well as any necessary electrical upgrades and software implementation. Staff will explore other potential funding sources and opportunities to potentially lessen the overall financial impact to the City, $ 80,000 $ 150,000

FY 24-25
After installation, there are ongoing costs associated with the charging stations software/maintenance that will be included in the Public Works operating budget. Staff will work with the charging station provider to determine the amount of recurring costs, which would not begin until FY 25-26.
