Description of General Fund Costs
The Department owns five riding mowers for maintenance activities involving mowing the 35 acres of Lacy Park, as well as the landscaped medians on Huntington Drive and Sierra Madre Boulevard. Two of the mowers are electric-powered (purchased in FY 23-24), with the remaining three being gas-powered. A new electric mower will help improve the frequency of the City's maintenance activities at Lacy Park as well as medians and other landscaped areas of the public right-of-way. Additionally, the purchase of an electric mower will help the City meet new State requirements regarding the usage of electric vehicles and equipment. Beginning in 2024, manufacturers will begin phasing out gas-powered mowers, making it more difficult to find replacement parts for the City's existing equipment. The Department recommends purchasing a mower every other year beginning until the mower fleet is completely electric. As this is an electric mower, AQMD funds may be used to assist with the purchase. The estimated price based on quotes obtained from qualified vendors is $60,000, although this amount may be able to cover the purchase of two mowers depending on potential AQMD exchange rebates. Staff will explore potential funding opportunities to lessen the overall financial impact to the City. A new mower has an expected useful life of 20 years, and would improve maintenance staff efficiency. $ 50,000

The new mower will require routine maintenance to ensure proper function. This maintenance is not expected to exceed $500 per year and can be sufficiently covered by the Department's operating budget.
