RATES FOR EXTRA BIN PICKUPS FOR
RESIDENTIAL BIN SERVICE CUSTOMERS (ESTATE CUSTOMERS)
AND CALCULATION OF RATES
Residential customers with backyard bin (i.e. a 1, 1.5, 2, 3, or 4 cubic yard dumpster) service will be required to have two containers: one container for trash/recyclables and one container for organics (yard trimmings/food scraps). Based upon the types of materials, a Residential customer with backyard bin service may choose from the bundled container configurations at the rates listed in Exhibit A Proposed Solid Waste Services Rates.
The bundled container configurations for Residential customers with backyard bin service include one bin and one cart. If the Residential customer generates more trash/recyclables than organics (yard trimmings/food scraps), the customer will receive a trash/recyclables bin (i.e. a 1, 1.5, 2, 3, or 4 cubic yard dumpster) and a 96-gallon organics (yard trimmings/food scraps) cart. If the Residential customer generates more organics (yard trimmings/food scraps) than trash/recyclables, the customer will receive an organics (yard trimmings/food scraps) bin (i.e. a 1, 1.5, 2, 3, or 4 cubic yard dumpster) and a 96-gallon trash/recyclables cart.
Calculation of Monthly Rates for Extra Bin Pickups
In the event Residential customers with bin service desire more than once per week pickup of their bin, the proposed monthly rates in Table 2 of Exhibit A apply. The proposed rates are calculated utilizing the Proposed Residential Estate Bin Service Bundled Option Rates 2.1 through 2.8 (listed in Table B of Exhibit A) and deducting either the Additional Cart Rate for Co-Collected Organics Carts or the Additional Cart Rate for Co-Collected Trash/Recyclables Carts in the Residential Basic Level of Service (listed in Table A on Exhibit A). The result is the monthly rate for each additional bin pickup per week. Since the additional pickups per week apply only to the bin service and not the cart service, the cost for the cart service is deducted from the bundled rate.

The Proposed Residential Estate Bin Service Bundled Option Rates 2.1 through 2.8, as well as the Additional Cart Rate for Co-Collected Organics Carts and the Additional Cart Rate for Co-Collected Trash/Recyclables Carts used in the above calculations were included in the City of San Marino Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Increase in Solid Waste Rates mailed on July 26, 2025 and posted on the City’s website www.sanmarinoca.gov/trash.
