CALL TO ORDER at 6:00 p.m.
Roll Call
Present: Mayor Lee, Deputy Mayor Diaz Nash, Council Members: Loraine and Newsom Council Member Hedges joined at 6:03.
CLOSED SESSION
Following the opportunity for public comment, there were no speakers, the City Council convened into Closed Session at 6:04 p.m. to consider:
1. Conference with Legal Counsel – Existing Litigation
(Paragraph (1) of subdivision (d) of Government Code Section 54956.9) Name of Case: Karolyn Franklin v. City of San Mateo., San Mateo Superior Court Case No.: 22-CIV00807 The City Council reconvened into open session at 6:17 p.m.
STUDY SESSION
2. City Council Goal Setting - Process Revisions
Drew Corbett, City Manager, provided a presentation on the City Council goal setting process and some challenges of the current process including the strategic objectives have increased from approximately 30 items to 55 items with 51 of them as a high priority item A. Some of the objectives are actually operations and no longer require to be tracked in this method. Staff is proposing the strategic plan should be more visionary and more high level, keep the three-step process, but remove the priority levels and only track items that are currently being resourced, and recategorize the objectives based on the length of time needed to complete them – immediate term (current fiscal year); medium term (two to 5 years) and long term (five plus years).
Public Comment – there were no speakers.
Council asked questions of staff and concurred in the staff recommendations.
