Park and Recreation Commission Appointment Subcommittee – Youth Commissioner Recommendations RECOMMENDATION:
Appoint Thomas Jacob Jelniker and Serene Audrey Li to the Park and Recreation Commission as Youth Commissioners for a term through November 6, 2024, and place Jaslene Mia Rodriguez and Charlotte Graham on an eligibility list for a period of one year should another Youth Commissioner vacancy on the Park and Recreation Commission occur.
BACKGROUND:
On March 6, 2023, the City Council adopted Ordinance (2023-1) to amend San Mateo Municipal Code Chapter 2.27 “Park and Recreation Commission” to provide for Council appointment of two non-voting youth advisory members. The City Clerk’s Office conducted a recruitment, which included an extensive outreach to organizations working with the youth community. A total of 15 applications were received, twelve applicants were screened as eligible for appointment, and, due to one withdrawal from consideration, a total of eleven applicants were interviewed by the Park and Recreation Commission Appointment Subcommittee, consisting of Mayor Amourence Lee and Council Member Robert Newsom, Jr.
