CITY OF SAN MATEO
RESOLUTION NO. ____ (2024)
APPROVING USE OF ALTERNATIVE PURCHASING PROCEDURE FOR PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT
HAND HELD AND MOBLE RADIOS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the hand held and mobile radios utilized by the San Mateo Police Department were purchased in 2018 and 2012 respectively, and have reached the end of their useful life; and WHEREAS, thorough research was conducted and Kenwood radios have been identified as the desired replacement radios; and
WHEREAS, Municipal Code Section 3.60.070(h)(3) provides that the City may use any purchasing procedures approved by the City Council if the Council makes a finding concurrent with the award that the procedures are in the best interest of the City for that particular agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA, HEREBY FINDS and RESOLVES that:
1. This action is not a project subject to CEQA, because it can be seen with certainty that it will not cause a physical change in the environment (Public Resources Code Section 21065.)
2. Pursuant to Municipal Code Section 3.60.070(h)(3), it is found that the approval of the agreement to purchase radio equipment from Metro Mobile Communications is in the City’s best interest because Metro Mobile is a local retailer of the equipment, thereby allowing for replacement or repairs of this critical equipment to be conducted in the most expedient manner; because of the general consistency in pricing for these types of goods; and because staff has worked with Metro Mobile in the past and has been pleased with their responsiveness and exceptional customer service.
3. The purchase agreement in the amount of $721,055.83 is approved.
4. The Police Chief is authorized to execute the agreement.
