RESOLUTION NO. ____ (2024)
APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO LEASE THE COMMERCIAL SPACE AT 171 NORTH
AMPHLETT BOULEVARD FOR THE WORKER RESOURCE CENTER
WHEREAS, Samaritan House operates the San Mateo Worker Resource Center (WRC), a facility that connects day laborers in the City with potential employers; and WHEREAS, the City supports the WRC via an operations contract with Samaritan House and provides the facility out of which the WRC is operated; and
WHEREAS, on August 17, 2020, the City Council approved the lease (Lease) of the commercial space located at 171 North Amphlett Boulevard (171 N. Amphlett) at a rate of $5,000 per month for the space, plus an additional $410.39 per month for common area maintenance fees, for a total cost to the City of $64,925; and WHEREAS, the Lease allowed for up to three (3) one-year extensions, though August 31, 2024; and WHEREAS, the owner of 171 N. Amphlett has agreed to continue leasing the space to the City for operation of the WRC by Samaritan House through an amended lease allowing for a one-year term, from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025; and
WHEREAS, the monthly rental rate of $5,627.54 reflects an increase of three percent from the prior year, not including maintenance costs of $462 per month; and WHEREAS, $69,000 from the General Fund was appropriated in Community Development’s Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget for the rental of 171 N. Amphlett for the WRC; WHEREAS, an additional appropriation of $5,000 is necessary to cover the increased rent and maintenance costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA, HEREBY RESOLVES that:
1. This fund appropriation is not a project of CEQA because it is an organizational or administrative activity that will not impact the environment (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378(b)(5).
2. The appropriation of $5,000 from the General Fund (Fund 100) to pay the monthly rent and maintenance costs at 171 N. Amphlett for one year is approved.
