QUALIFICATIONS
My qualifications for serving on this board/commission are as follows: My qualifications for serving on the San Mateo Sustainability & Infrastructure Commission stem from a multidisciplinary background in data analytics, public sector consulting, and strategic planning. I currently serve as a Technical Consultant at Valuenex in Palo Alto, where I have led cross-sector research projects, secured $700K in government contracts, and organized public-private stakeholder conferences that grew to over 90 attendees. I hold a master’s degree in Data Analytics & Business Management from Harvard University, and a B.Sc. in Cell & Molecular Biology and Economics from San Francisco State University. My work consistently focuses on leveraging data for actionable insights, aligning well with the commission’s advisory role.
Additionally, I bring experience in community engagement and public-facing communication, essential for responding to resident concerns and shaping equitable infrastructure policy. I am particularly passionate about contributing to flood- resilient infrastructure in San Mateo and helping the city build climate-ready systems through data-informed solutions and grant-funded initiatives.
I want to serve on this board/commission because: I want to serve on this commission because I’ve seen firsthand the risks that inadequate infrastructure poses to our community—especially during the wet seasons when the threat of major flooding becomes dangerously real. I’ve lived in my home long enough to experience the growing impact of climate change, and after reviewing available data, I was alarmed to discover that my own property is rated 10/10 for extreme flooding risk over the next 30 years. This is not just a future concern—it’s an urgent one. Serving on this commission would give me a meaningful opportunity to advocate for myself and my neighbors, ensuring that our voices are represented in shaping practical, forward-thinking solutions. I want to help the city prioritize and implement flooding mitigation strategies that are both data-driven and community-informed.
Please list any other background information (business, education, community involvement) which might be useful in considering your appointment and attach a resume: I hold a Master’s degree in Data Analytics & Business Management from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science in Cell & Molecular Biology and Economics from San Francisco State University. Professionally, I’ve led projects across sectors, with a focus on strategic consulting, public-private partnerships, and infrastructure-related data analysis. I currently serve as a Technical Consultant at Valuenex in Palo Alto, where I’ve contributed to over $4M in value-add consulting, led community-focused research initiatives, and helped secure $700K in public sector grants. I’m actively involved in organizing industry and investor events focused on emerging technologies and sustainable development. My combined background in science, data, and civic engagement gives me a strong foundation to contribute thoughtfully and effectively to the Sustainability & Infrastructure Commission. A full resume is attached for your review.

QUALIFICATIONS
My qualifications for serving on this board/commission are as follows: I bring more than 20 years of leadership experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, with a deep commitment to sustainable community development, environmental justice, and equitable infrastructure planning. Currently, I serve as Executive Director of Canopy (canopy.org), a Palo Alto–based urban forestry nonprofit dedicated to growing healthy urban forests in underserved neighborhoods and advancing environmental equity through tree planting, education, and community engagement. I oversee a $2 million budget, a 20- person staff, and a 14-member board of directors, and work closely with government agencies, community partners, and residents to implement greening initiatives that support long-term health and resilience. Previously, I was Chief Communications Officer at TreePeople, Los Angeles’ largest environmental nonprofit, where I led rebranding, digital learning, and policy communications that helped drive climate resilience and green infrastructure solutions across Southern California. I also served as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Ukraine, supporting public health and advocacy organizations to build local leadership and sustainability practices. Throughout my career—including senior leadership roles at UCLA and early experience as a journalist covering infrastructure and education—I have developed expertise in strategic planning, civic engagement, and translating complex policy into accessible narratives. With a Master’s in Public Administration and a track record of cross-sector collaboration, I am passionate about bringing inclusive, community-centered approaches to sustainability and infrastructure planning in San Mateo.
I want to serve on this board/commission because: I believe that nature-based solutions—like urban trees and green infrastructure—are essential, yet too often overlooked components of sustainability and climate adaptation planning. In my work leading Canopy, I’ve seen firsthand how strategic investments in urban forestry can reduce heat, improve public health, enhance biodiversity, and build community resilience. Yet despite their proven benefits, these solutions rarely have a seat at the table when decisions about infrastructure and land use are made. As San Mateo continues to grow and adapt to the challenges of climate change, we have a critical opportunity to reimagine our built environment—not just for people, but for the ecosystems we rely on. That means planning for wider tree wells that can sustain large, protective trees; installing permeable surfaces that allow us to capture and use stormwater more effectively; and integrating reflective materials that mitigate urban heat. I want to serve on this commission to advocate for these practical, scalable strategies and to help ensure that sustainability is not an afterthought, but a foundational principle in how we design the future of our city.

Professionally, I’ve held leadership roles across the nonprofit, government, and academic sectors. At Canopy, I lead an organization focused on urban greening, equity, and community-based climate resilience. Prior to that, I served as Chief Communications Officer at TreePeople in Los Angeles, where I helped lead major sustainability initiatives, including launching a digital learning platform and overseeing a $1.5 million rebranding strategy to expand the organization’s reach and policy impact. Internationally, I served with the U.S. Peace Corps in Ukraine, where I built leadership academies for HIV/AIDS and public health organizations and helped establish an LGBTQ+ advocacy forum—underscoring my commitment to inclusive community building. I also bring prior experience in higher education administration at UCLA, where I led strategic communications for the College and advised on diversity and development efforts, and in journalism, where I covered infrastructure, education, and public policy. These roles have given me a strong foundation in civic issues, public messaging, stakeholder engagement, and the intersection of social and environmental policy.

Commission?: Yes
QUALIFICATIONS
My qualifications for serving on this board/commission are as follows: I have been closely involved with San Mateo sustainability and infrastructure issues for the past five to six years. My earliest involvement with as specific issue was over ten years ago, when I noticed city contractors had damanged a neighbor's sewer lateral and caused human waste to flood the sidewalk on Humboldt near the school bus pickup. Over the course of two days I pushed repeatedly to get city to clean up the mess first and foremost, then figure out who was at fault and recover costs if appropriate. It concerned me that toxic waste was allowed to sit. I later spoke at City Council and secured agreement that in similar cases cleanup would take priority over seeking fault. Children, elderly, pets--or anyone--should never be exposed to human waste while the blame game is played, Since then I've engaged on issues like the Humboldt Bike Lanes, Norfolk and Third, general street and lighting imrovements, the 92-101 connector, and many other issues at multiple levels. I've attended meetings related to Complete Streets both city-wide and for North Central. I have a long background in operations with a tech company based in San Mateo and am a passionate believer that we need a multi-model, pedestrian and bike/scooter friendly city to realize the potential San Mateo has to be a great community for everyone.
I want to serve on this board/commission because: Balancing competing interests is never hard. The best public policy is made when all stakeholders not only have a voice but a solid understanding of the limitations and opportunities. I find that city policy is often hobbled by inadequate outreach, inadequate detail in plans or options, and a lack of imagination for alternatives and solutions. I want to make the current process of prioritizing needs and executing the vision less frustrating for everyone, whether it's city staff or constituents, businesses or visitors. Sustainability and Infrastructure is an often overlooked arena compared to others such as public safety or planning issues, but it can have a truly massive day to day and year to year impact on the quality of life. The nitty-gritty is what makes the city.
Please list any other background information (business, education, community involvement) which might be useful in considering your appointment and attach a resume: -10+ years civic involvement in sustainability and infrastructure issues. -20+ years as a leader in a successful San Mateo based tech startup serving the Life Sciences and High Tech industries, including operations, communications, enablement and go-to-market. -Cofounded B Street Boosters, a local civic advocacy group for a vibrant downtown. -Board Member, San Mateo County Astronomy Society, focused on public outreach and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
My qualifications for serving on this board/commission are as follows: As CEO and co-founder of Warm Water Wellness, I bring a strong foundation in accessibility advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and inclusive community development. My volunteer work has focused on expanding health and wellness access for seniors, people with disabilities, and those recovering from injuries—populations often most affected by aging infrastructure, limited mobility options, and public safety challenges. I have successfully led collaborative efforts with city departments, engaged in public comment and policy discussions, and built grassroots momentum to restore access to therapeutic aquatic services. My leadership was recognized with the San Mateo Mayor’s Hero Award and Jefferson Award for advancing inclusive health infrastructure and community wellness. I am also one of the founders of No Cell Outs, a resident-led group advocating for greater oversight and transparency in wireless infrastructure. That experience sharpened my understanding of how infrastructure intersects with environmental responsibility, community health, and equitable development. With San Mateo’s current focus on public safety, electrification, and infrastructure modernization—as outlined in the General Plan 2040—I believe my perspective and experience would contribute meaningfully to the Sustainability & Infrastructure Commission’s mission and work.
I want to serve on this board/commission because: I am deeply invested in helping San Mateo grow into a more inclusive, safe, and sustainable city. Serving on the Sustainability & Infrastructure Commission would allow me to bring a health- and accessibility-focused lens to decisions that shape our shared spaces and services. I believe that when we design and invest in infrastructure with equity in mind, we not only improve safety and access—but also build a more resilient, connected, and future-ready community. I was recently approached by a sitting commissioner seeking more input from the disabled community—a request that deeply resonated with me. While I’ve regularly engaged through advocacy and public comment, I believe that disability representation within advisory bodies is essential to making systemic change. San Mateo is on the path toward transformative goals—such as electrification, climate resilience, green infrastructure, integrated water management, and infrastructure modernization. As an accessibility advocate and nonprofit leader, I’m committed to ensuring that we bring a people-first approach to these efforts. When we embed equity into the planning process from the beginning—not as an afterthought—we create a city that works better for everyone. My passion for community wellness, paired with my practical understanding of how public policy, infrastructure, and inclusion intersect, is what drives my desire to serve.

QUALIFICATIONS
My qualifications for serving on this board/commission are as follows: I have a passion for sustainability and infrastructure improvement, both professionally and personally. Prior to purchasing my home and moving my family to San Mateo in 2020, we lived on a large coastal ranch in Half Moon Bay for nearly 20 years. This experience taught me first hand the value of balancing preservation with development on our own large property. Professionally, I have extensive experience marketing solutions for the construction and utility industries, where sustainability is a leading initiative. Currently, I lead product marketing for Oracle’s Utility business unit. In my professional roles, I have been fortunate to see multiple sides of the sustainability initiative, including the role that technology can have in supporting intelligent and responsible infrastructure development and minimizing environmental impacts. Ultimately, I would like to bring my skills to the commission to help create a more sustainable, resilient, and livable city for current and future generations. Further to the above, I have relevant knowledge or experience including: - Mechanical Engineering degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (where my senior research involved exploring alternative energy sources) - Energy, policy, and community engagement - Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills - Technology solutions for construction and project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities - Commitment to representing our community's diverse interests - Availability to attend meetings and contribute time I want to serve on this board/commission because: In addition to a genuine interest, relevant experience, and the ability to contribute my time, I am looking for opportunities to make a tangible difference in my community. I see this role as having the ability to directly influence local policies and projects that shape the city's environmental health, transportation systems, energy use, and overall infrastructure for the better. I believe that I can help champion initiatives that promote environmental protection, resource conservation, and a more resilient future for the city. I would like to ensure the city's essential systems are safe, efficient, equitable, and meet the needs of all residents. Serving on the commission would also provide me an opportunity to voice the concerns and priorities of neighbors and contribute to decisions that impact everyone. I would also enjoy the opportunity that serving on this commission would provide me to learn and grow. It would be a chance to deepen my understanding of local government processes, sustainability challenges, and infrastructure management. I could connect with other passionate individuals, city staff, and community leaders working towards common goals. And finally, I see serving on the commission as a way to contribute to the well-being and long-term prosperity of my community.
Please list any other background information (business, education, community involvement) which might be useful in considering your appointment and attach a resume: In addition to the experience and interest that I noted above, it might be useful to know that I have always valued building community and giving back as a volunteer. Whether it be through coaching youth and high school sports, serving as a dad’s club president, or simply assisting my neighbors with various projects, I am usually the first one to raise my hand when help or leadership is required. You can see a full summary of my professional background in my attached resume.
