Dear SM City Council,
Thank you for your service to the community.
At tonight's discussion of legislative priorities for the City, I encourage the Council to support SB 63. This important piece of legislation would provide a route to a sizable and reliable funding mechanism for our chronically underfunded public transit systems. Current funding mechanisms in SM County, including Measure A & W sales taxes, do not provide sufficient revenue to maintain current service levels. In addition, Measures A & W spend too much money. on highway widening and other expensive, car- focused projects (such as the 101/92 Direct Connector project which the Council just opposed) that fail to address congestion, climate change, or air pollution.
