MEETING DATE: October 06, 2025
SUBJECT:
City Council 2026 Regular Meeting Calendar — Adoption
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the City Council Regular Meeting schedule for the calendar year 2026 and, pursuant to Charter Section 2.10, authorize relocating the January 12 and January 26, 2026, Regular City Council Meetings to the Main Library.
BACKGROUND:
Each year, staff presents the City Council with a proposed calendar for regular meetings for the upcoming year. In accordance with the City Charter, regular City Council meetings are typically held on the first and third Mondays of each month, with exceptions for holidays. In July, August, and December, only one regular meeting is scheduled. Attachment 1 lists the proposed 2026 Regular Meeting Calendar. Adjustments are proposed by staff to accommodate various holiday, religious, and cultural events.
Staff is currently managing the council chambers audio-visual replacement project, along with carpet repairs and replacements near the dais. These improvements will limit access to the chambers and prevent use for the first Council meeting of the new year, which is proposed to be scheduled for January 12, 2026. The project is anticipated to be completed the week of January 19, 2026.
Pursuant to Section 2.10 of the City Charter, all regular and adjourned regular meetings are to be held at City Hall unless the Council determines another location is more suitable due to its capacity or condition. In accordance with this provision, and to facilitate conduct of regular City business during the construction period, staff is requesting Council authorization for the January 12, 2026, and January 26, 2026, City Council meetings to be relocated to the Oak Room at the San Mateo Main Library.
