PA25-012: The Carey School Early Childhood Education Center Dear Simin Zakavand:
Public Works has investigated the recommendation made by Planning Commission on the addition of signage along La Salle Dr to facilitate The Carey School’s Parking and Traffic Plan.
San Mateo Municipal Code Section 11.20.010 allows the City Manager exclusive power and duty to place and maintain, or cause to be placed and maintained, official traffic control devices when deemed necessary.
The Parking and Traffic Plan provided for this planning application (PA25-012) is a modified version of what was accepted under the previous entitlement for the main campus (PA18-069). The PA18-069 Parking and Traffic Plan required no parking along the cul-de-sac during peak hours. There are existing non-conforming “No Parking Signs” along the cul-de-sac which was not part of the previous entitlement and have been placed without city approval. Through the PA25-012 project entitlement, the developer would be required to remove the existing non-conforming signs, and as was the intent per PA18-069, install city standard signs and poles as necessary at the designated pick-up/drop-off locations along the cul-de-sac for the peak hours. A template of the signage to use can be found in Attachment 1.
Public Works concurs with the Planning Commission and recommends adding a condition of approval stating that the developer will be required to implement the appropriate signage on their offsite improvement plans and obtain an encroachment permit for installation that must be issued prior to building permit issuance.
