Salary Schedule Revision for the Senior Transportation Planner — Approval RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution to approve the revision to the Salary Schedule for the Senior Transportation Planner classification.
BACKGROUND:
On January 12, 2026, City Council approved the updated Senior Transportation Planner and Principal Transportation Planner job specification series and the salary range for the new classification of Senior Transportation Planner.
Recently, it has come to our attention that the current salary for the Senior Transportation Planner classification is not in alignment with Senior Planner classification for the City. Historically, the salaries for the Planner and Transportation Planner series have always been aligned. Positions in the Planner series are located in the Community Development Department and positions in the Transportation Planner series are located in the Public Works Department. The current salaries are as follows for these two series:
Planner Series Salary Range- Monthly Transportation Planner Series Salary Range- Monthly Principal Planner $13,093.74 - $15,611.19 Principal Transportation Planner $13,093.74 - $15,611.19 Associate Planner $9,498.51 - $11,321.62 Associate Transportation Planner $9,498.51 - $11,321.62 Senior Planner $11,602.02 - $13,840.86 Senior Transportation Planner $10,448.33 - $12,453.76 Although the salary for the Senior Transportation Planner was set 10% above the Associate Transportation Planner, there is a $1,387.10 difference in monthly salary between these two classifications as outlined above. Therefore, the Public Works Department and Human Resources Department recommend that the salary range for the Senior Transportation Planner to be adjusted to $11,602.02-$13,840.86 monthly.
Adjusting the salary range for the Senior Transportation Planner will ensure consistency, equity, and support with recruitment and retention.
BUDGET IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact as there is sufficient funding within the current budget to support salary schedule revision ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINATION:
This revision to the salary schedule for the Senior Transportation Planner is not a project subject to CEQA, because it is a government fiscal activity which does not involve any commitment to any specific project which may result in a potentially significant physical impact on the environment. (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378(b)(4).)
