City Clerk's Office
Application for Parks and Recreation Youth
Commissioner

Page 2 of 2 ends

Have you attended any Commission meeting(s)? If so, how many? Present and Previous Community or Civic Involvement:
1 I've been actively involved in community service both at school and in San Mateo. For the past three years, I've volunteered with Samaritan House, delivering meals and distributing food to local families, which has shown me how important accessible community support is. I also managed the outdoor operations for a basketball tournament fundraiser for underserved youth, coordinating registration, concessions, and student volunteers. In addition, I was selected to represent Notre Dame Belmont at a national conference and regularly help welcome new students by hosting events and sharing information with prospective families.

Explain briefly why you are applying for this position:

I am applying because I want to bring a youth perspective to the City's parks and recreation programs and public spaces. Through coordinating school events, playing sports, and helping lead a community fundraiser, I've seen how well-designed spaces and activities can bring people together and make them feel included. I'm excited about the opportunity to support the Commission's work by sharing ideas and perspectives from local youth. I hope to shape programs, facilities, and public spaces that are welcoming and engaging for all youth.

What about this Commission's purpose inspired you to apply? Growing up in San Mateo, the parks and recreation programs have been a big part of my life, and I was inspired to apply because I care about making facilities and programs fun and inclusive for all young people. After attending a Commission meeting, I was even more excited to see the level of feedback and conversation around the Parks and Recreation Activities survey. I loved how the discussion focused on making the survey more accessible so people from different backgrounds could participate, and I would be thrilled to lead a project gathering youth input. I'm connected with high school students across San Mateo and would be excited to help the Commission hear their ideas and perspectives.

I hereby affirm that my answers to the foregoing questions are true and correct and that I have not knowingly withheld any fact or circumstance that would, if disclosed, affect my application unfavorably.
