Subject: Highway 101 Connector Project **OPPOSE**
Hello-
As a lifelong resident of San Mateo, I am still very concerned that this project is still under consideration. Over 250 residents voiced concerns over a year ago about this project and it is still being considered. Something needs to be done. This is the residents' city!!! We should have rights over what is being done to change it. The top questions & concerns:

- What will be the impact on the quality of life in neighborhoods adjacent to the project? - How long will construction last and what closures will occur? - With more people driving, what will be the neighborhood impact on:
- Air pollution and childhood asthma
- Congestion on local streets, especially when highway crashes divert commuters to local streets via GPS
- Pedestrian safety: We have seen multiple pedestrian deaths in recent years near the 101 and 92 onramps

- What is the cost of the project and is this the best use of taxpayer dollars? - Shouldn't we improve public transit finances (which may require new taxes) instead of encouraging more people to drive?
- Shouldn't we fix existing roads before building new ones? Potholes are everywhere. - Shouldn't we invest in safe streets infrastructure to make it safe for kids to walk and bike to school? We are frequently told there isn't enough money for this.

- Will this really reduce congestion?
- Won't this simply encourage more people to drive, eliminating any congestion benefit? - It seems like congestion is worse today despite widening the 101 three years ago and despite more people working from home.

- Who will benefit from this project? Is it equitable? - Won't the project largely benefit East Bay commuters (100,000 cross the bridge every day)? Won't the Express Lanes most benefit the wealthiest who can afford the high prices? - What does the project do for those who don't drive and/or rely on public transit? There are no
plans to restart transbay bus service because it was undersubscribed. - Will this project really increase carpooling? It seems like many drivers in the Express Lanes are falsely selecting HOV-3.

Thank you,
Stacey Alioto

Subject: Concerned resident on highway expansion
Hi, I am a resident of 19th Ave park and my kids also go to school in Fiesta Gardens so most of our life revolves around the space by the expansion.

I am very concerned about this expansion and am generally opposed to it. I have a lot of questions about traffic expansion and air/noise pollution in region, esp so close to a school with many young children (my preschooler is also here).

Having lived in 19th Ave for over a decade I am already woken up at night by noise and speeding cars on the highway- esp loud motorcycles that like to race at night.

Please do not let this expansion proceed.

Thank you,
Sherry

I am very concerned that this project is still being considered despite opposition from residence and our city Council. The following issues are still a great concern to me.

-Won’t this project destroy homes in order to be built? These homes will not be purchased at market value which means the people who own them will not be able to buy comparable house in this area.

What is the cost of the project and is this the best use of taxpayer dollars? - Shouldn't we improve public transit finances (which may require new taxes) instead of encouraging more people to drive? Improving public transportation will remove people from the highways, reducing congestion.

I am writing to urge you to continue your opposition to this project. I see no benefit to our community from going forward with this.

Subject: 101/92 Direct Connector

Good morning,

I read the most recent email that went out regarding the 101/92 connector project. I see that there were a series of popular questions that the community has risen. However the one biggest question that I do not see attached is: What does this project do to both neighborhoods that are backed up to the 101/92!? Our family is one of the houses/properties that is on the list to be totally or partially taken to make room for this project. I understand that if this project must go through due to whatever elite class dreamed it up but the communities need to know that NO HOMES OR PARKS WILL BE AFFECTED by this project by imminent domain of any sort, not 1 square inch. The community needs this assurance!

A couple alternative ideas that no one probably considered

Why doesn't the state explore carrying all that traffic through 880 and across the Dumbarton bridge and through Palo Alto since that's where the East Bay commuters are going? Nothing about this project makes any sense other that the state wants more revenue through pay lanes. Which is a whole other issue.

Or

Stop the project because it makes zero sense. Pay whatever fees that it's taken thus far, return the money to the taxpayers. Doesn't seem like very many people are in favor of this project that was supposedly on the ballot in 2018... doesn't sound like too many people voted "yes" for it by the voice of the community.

Just some food for thought on the alternatives. The community will not be better off by this project going forward.

Thank you,

Nick Nelson

I am a San Mateo resident and regular user of the 101/92 interchange. I oppose the project work going on.

I advocate for you also opposing the project on my behalf.

Thank you

Sincerely,
Daniel Schonberg
