RESOLUTION NO. ____ 2026
ADOPTING INCREASES TO THE COMMUNITY FLOOD AND STORM PROTECTION FEE FOR FISCAL YEAR 2026-27 WHEREAS, the City Council reviews the fees for the City of San Mateo’s (City) Community Flood and Storm Protection Fee (hereafter “Stormwater Fee”); and
WHEREAS, the City operates and maintains a stormwater system that provides vital services to protect neighborhoods from flooding and safeguard local waterways from pollution; and WHEREAS, the City’s stormwater system requires long-overdue upgrades, and, prior to 2024, the system lacked a dedicated funding source; and
WHEREAS, on January 16, 2024, the City Council approved the dedicated Community Flood and Storm Protection Fee (Stormwater Fee), which authorized Consumer Price Index increases for each fiscal year; and WHEREAS, for Fiscal Year 2026–27, the Stormwater Fee is subject to an annual adjustment based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for the San Francisco Bay Area, as of each December, with a maximum allowable increase of 3%; and
WHEREAS, for Fiscal Year 2026–27, the CPI increase from December was 3.0%.
