Subject: Fair Pay for San Mateo Library Staff
Dear City Clerk Martin McTaggart,
I am a patron of the San Mateo Public Library.

I am writing to you because I am troubled to learn that the staff who run our library system are paid less than any other comparable city in the Bay Area.

I am so grateful to our library staff and the programs they run. My husband and I have lived in San Mateo for 24 years.

We are very fortunate to live down the street from the Hillsdale branch, although we also enjoy the resources of the main branch. My husband recently became vision impaired, and the staff has been particularly helpful in tracking down audiobooks and other resources for him.

All in all, we constantly use the library and hold the staff in the greatest esteem.

We ask you to make library staff compensation reflect the quality of services they provide by bringing them up to market median compensation and giving them a cost-of-living adjustment that keeps up with inflation in this difficult time.

Thank you,
Cathy Bump
