Weigh of Life - The Road to Healthy Balance Living
1. Approach, Management, and Evaluation Plan
Weigh of Life has over a decade of experience in providing classes to our diverse community. Weigh of Life has the internal capacity to implement proposed project. We have eight instructors; half are certified in different exercise disciplines. For this project we will place and age-appropriate instructor who can relate best with our target population. We will set specific exercise plans which will include relevant music, equipment. For this project we plan to use evaluation forms for pre-start of project and set individual objectives. We will be having weekly weigh ins and chart progress. During the project, a monthly review on goal objectives and progress. We will also offer healthy cooking classes and how to grow your own vegetables. The cooking classes will track all student’s participation and receive completion certificate at end of cooking classes. Weigh of Life will also conduct a post evaluation on each participant about the impact of the project and use this tool to continue with any needed programing or information and referral by each student. Weigh of Life presently hires 99% of its instructors and administrators from the San Pablo, Richmond Areas.

We hope to re-start classes September 2022. We stop do to COVID-19.
3. Scope of Services
Weigh of Life proposes a yearlong program which will target young adults ages 18 to 25 years old.
We will start new exercise classes with age-appropriate instructors, healthy cooking classes, and a class on how to grow your own healthy food. We will also work on specific socio-economic issues that students might identify. Our plan is to increase the basic knowledge of better eating, active living and how this leads to a healthier approach to body image and holistic approach to health. Many of our young adults in our communities have limited access to resources to help with exercise, nutrition classes which leads to obesity and the many health issues which are in high percentages in our communities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, and issues of social economics in our communities.
We will offer exercise classes twice a week for a total of 2.5 hours a week. With weekly weigh ins.
Cooking classes will last for a total of 12 weeks. At end of the classes each student will receive a completion certificate, knowledge on how to read food labels, and how to shop for healthier food.
All students will be given the opportunity to gain experience with growing their own healthy food in collaboration with a community partner We will work with all students in identifying any social economic needs and help them identify a health home where they can get regular checkups for any underlining health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and any other health issues.
Weigh of Life has had the experience needed to approach the family unit to make our communities truly healthy. We will open our doors to other family members to help with information and referral and to help identity other resources needed by students.
We plan to target 30 to 40 unduplicated students who will attend classes twice a week for one year. We will provide 1 hour exercise classes and half hour nutrition classes. We will provide a 3-month healthy cooking class for an hour in a group setting on a weekly basis. We will develop a weekly weigh in plan and have all students keep a log on progress.
Classes on how your own healthy vegetable class will be available to all students. The classes will be developed once students’ schedules are determined.
All students will be partner with another student to help with personal interaction and participation in project. This will assure support and success of students’ outcomes
All classes and training will take place in the evening hours to assure that all the students can attend all classes and trainings.
Day Care will be provided to our students with young children. These children will also have access to movement classes and active play.
