RE: Letter of Support for City of Richmond Department of Information Technology’s Local Agency Technical Assistance Grant Application Dear Grant Manager:

As Mayor, and on the behalf of the San Pablo City Council, it is my pleasure to w rite in support of the City of Richmond’s Local Agency Technical Assistance (LATA) grant application to expand broadband access and grassroots technical support throughout the City of Richmond. The City of Richmond’s “Expanding Broadband for All Program” strongly supports the LATA program goal to provide high-speed broadband access to underserved communities throughout California.

The City of San Pablo is a neighboring jurisdiction of the City of Richmond in West Contra Costa County, and the City of Richmond is in process of expanding its local broadband network. Over the last 5 years, extensive work has been accomplished by the City of Richmond Department of Information Technology, the Internet Archive, community members, and stakeholders to develop and implement the City of Richmond’s broadband offering, which currently provides free Wi-Fi to public housing units in Richmond and has led to expanding opportunities in our San Pablo community. Funding provided through the LATA program will support the next phase of our joint project development between our respective cities.

Overall, San Pablo supports the efforts to build broadband infrastructure that enables joint broadband efforts for the community of Richmond . Our City looks forward to future partnerships with the City of Richmond to expand broadband to these underserved communities we serve, and bridge this critical technology gap.
