Proclamation Recognizing
The month of October
As
NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH
WHEREAS, the City of San Pablo community is composed of people who are different, yet live, work, and reside together in our city;
WHEREAS, in the course of living and working together there can be conflict and behaviors like bullying that cause strife and hardship;
WHEREAS, bullying is physical, verbal, or emotional harm or intimidation intentionally directed at a person or group of people that occurs in neighborhood parks, playgrounds, schools, and recreation programs, and through technology including the internet and cell phones;
WHEREAS, many children and adolescents are affected by bullying annually, causing pain and health repercussions that can last for years;
WHEREAS, targets of bullying are more likely to acquire physical, emotional, and learning problems, and people who are repeatedly bullied often fear such activities as riding the bus, going to school or work, and attending community activities; and people who witness bullying often feel less secure and more fearful and intimidated;
WHEREAS, the presence of bullying in our community creates an environment that may hold our children back from being all they can be;
WHEREAS, research has shown that promoting and modeling the behaviors of kindness, acceptance of difference, and inclusion creates healthier communities for all people with f ewer incidences of bullying;
WHEREAS, National Bullying Prevention Month will promote kindness, inclusion, and acceptance for all people and provide bullying awareness and prevention resources to people in the City of San Pablo;
WHEREAS, the City of San Pablo schools, s tudents, parents, recreation programs, religious institutions, and community organizations are encouraged to engage in National Bullying Prevention Month, bringing all citizens together to celebrate kindness, acceptance of difference, and inclusion to protect our city from bullying and create a healthier community.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Abel Pineda, Mayor of the City of San Pablo, on behalf of the City Council proclaim October as National Bullying Prevention Month.
