Dear City of San Pablo,
It has come to my attention that we have an opportunity to create a new landmark with the naming of the new San Pablo Park.

Leonard McNeil worked tirelessly to make a positive impact on the San Pablo community. It is an honor to write this letter in support of such an amazing individual. I would wholeheartedly recommend the park be named in Mr. McNeil’s honor.

I hope the City adopts the resolution to name the park after Mr.

McNeil.

To the San Pablo City Council,
I am in full support of the facility naming recommendation from the community services standing committee for the city's new project site- Leonard R. McNeil Park (McNeil Park).

My reasons are simply and quite profoundly this. Mr. McNeil was a longtime resident of San Pablo who made a huge impact on the city. First, as a city council member and later as mayor, he believed in being a "servant leader"....a servant of the people, by the people, and for the people he served. And that was not limited to what he said (his talk), that was what he did (his walk). And he
did so with great pride, not just in his position, but also pride in what was accomplished with the help of the people of San Pablo.

Mr. Neil holds a very special place in the hearts of his family, friends, and many who knew him. Now let the city of San Pablo show in a very concrete way that his service and contributions are now, and will forever be remembered.

Respectfully,

--

To whom it may concern:

The opportunity has risen to honor the late Mayor Leonard McNeil by naming the new park after him (2600 Morago Rd). Mayor McNeil was not only a pillar to the community but was also a former Professor, Advocate of the underprivileged, Father, Brother, and Uncle. He spent years of his life feeding into the City of San Pablo to make it a better place for all. This is the opportunity to continue his legacy of making San Pablo a beautiful place to live for all.

To whom it may concern,
I’m writing in support of honoring Leonard McNeil with a park bearing his name in the city of San Pablo. My uncle was so many things to so many people. Son, Father, Uncle, Mayor, board member, teacher, mentor, leader, and activist just to name a few. Always striving to gain knowledge, learn more, and encourage others to do the same. The impact of his works and efforts cannot be underestimated and they are numerous. He loved the city, worked tirelessly in support of the people and always for the betterment of everyone. His leadership as a Mayor of San Pablo, as a professor at Contra Costa College, and as a board member at West County Wastewater, Leonard McNeil lead and contributed to countless new policies and changes that made a remarkable positive impact not to just those who worked with him but to people he never even met as inhabitants of the city because he cared and fought for everyone. My request is that you take into account all of the great work my uncle has done for the city of San Pablo and make the only choice, the right choice, to name the new park after him.

Best Regards,
Keith McNeil

It is my pleasure to write this letter in support of the naming of San Pablo's newest park in honor of Mr. Leonard McNeil.

There could be no
more fitting tribute to honor the memory of Mr. McNeil, a life long public servant, than the naming of this new space as McNeil Park.

I join his

Greetings City of San Pablo
The McNeil family is honored to hear that the city of San Pablo is considering naming its new park facility after Leonard McNeil. I can not think of a more deserving person. Leonard gave his heart and soul to the city of San Pablo for decades. He was a believer of the greater good and always doing what is right. His methods of walking the city streets and meeting people door to door, face to face is unmatched. When was the last time your city's Mayor knocked on your door and introduced themselves? Teaching at Contra Costa College and also being a student furthered his connection to the people. He contributed to countless projects in the city and it is very well known. Leonard McNeil passed away on April 14th 2019. His memorial was filled with the whole city from family, students, friends, colleagues and more. In closing, the name" McNeil Park" would be a true honor to his legacy and the positivity and life he brought to the city. Thank you.

Dear City Council,
I'm very delighted the city is providing a new open space for the residents of San Pablo. As our communities' grow our open spaces are fewer. Open space provides room for open thinking. It is in this purpose I would like advocate for the City Council to name the park after the honorable Leonard McNeil. Leonard always impressed me with his outreach to the community. Also, his desire to enhance the city of Pinole any way he could. He served on the City Council and Mayor during his tenure with the city. We need more citizens like Leonard in this world. I believe this would be an excellent way to honor his legacy.

Thanks

To the City of San Pablo,
I consider San Pablo, CA as my place of origin because I was born at the legacy Brookside hospital in 1967. I, as well thousands of others born in this facility, considered this hospital to be a personal landmark until it closing. We now have a chance to create a new landmark with the naming of the new San Pablo Park (located at 2600 Moraga Road, San Pablo CA) in honor of former Mayor, Professor, Advocate for the underprivileged, Father, Brother, Uncle, Mentor and forever Son of the city Leonard R. McNeil. Not unlike Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Mr.

McNeil “used his time creatively, in the knowledge that the time was always ripe to do right!” With all of his tireless endevers, accolades and achievements, their were many who knew him when he was alive (sadly passing on April 14, 2019). With the adoption of resolution 24-085, we now have a great opportunity to allow others to get to know McNeil’s legacy and hopefull inspire another generation to follow in his footsteps of “doing right”.

Please adopt this resolution in favor of Mr. McNeil.

Thank you for your time and attention towards this request Sincerely.

Recently, I've learned that the new open-space park facility in San Pablo may be honored with the name "MCNEIL PARK." I don't know of anyone more deserving than Leonard McNeil of the honor of having a beautiful public space named after him. His care and concern touched the lives of so many, as an ambassador of peace, as a teacher and mentor of young people, and as a public servant to the City of San Pablo.

I had the good fortune to interact with Leonard McNeil over several years. He participated in my oral history project at Richmond HS, called 'Where We're From ,' a multi-faceted project
in which students interviewed and learned the life stories of adults from various backgrounds; wrote poems in response to those interviews; and then had photos with the interviewees. These photos and poems became large, colorful posters that were exhibited at the Richard Museum of History, Richmond Main Street, City Hall, Hilltop Mall plus several venues in Berkeley and beyond.

Mr. McNeil's life story was especially illuminating, as he personified courage and commitment to the ideals of justice and peace.

Thank you for this consideration.

Most sincerely,

"McNeil Park" in honor of Leonard McNeil

I am writing to support naming the new park “McNeil Park” in honor of Leonard McNeil. My late uncle, Leonard McNeil, was a remarkable citizen of San Pablo as well as a caring and courageous uncle. From being Mayor of San Pablo for two terms, a city council member for several years, a college professor and a West County Wastewater District Board member, his contributions to the public, teachings and support of civil activism and the love of his community CAN NOT be underestimated. His ideals and policy changes can still be felt today during our normal days of our lives. He has made changes within the community that assist and help teachers, public servants and continue the fight for equality for all citizens of San Pablo and the greater Bay Area. In closing, I want to say when you name this new park after my uncle, you will be supporting what it means to be a strong loving family unit as he has taught myself, my cousins and citizens of San Pablo.

Thank you,

Marcus McNeil
