RESOLUTION 2025-###
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN PABLO AUTHORIZING AN EVENT SPONSORSHIP OF $2,000 TO HELMS MIDDLE SCHOOL (WITH BAY AREA COMMUNITY RESOURCES AS NON- PROFIT 501C(3) ORGANIZATION ACTING AS FISCAL AGENT) FOR A READING CARNIVAL EVENT IN MAY 2025
WHEREAS, Build a Healthy Community: Foster Youth Leadership/Cultivation of the next generation of civic leaders is an adopted policy item in the FY 2023- 25 City Council Priority Work plan, effective May 1, 2023;
WHEREAS, this proposed action is not a project as defined by CEQA;
WHEREAS, on December 4, 2024, the City Manager’s Office received a request from John Evans, Helms Middle School Librarian, announcing a Reading Carnival event scheduled for May 2025;
WHEREAS, the purpose of the event is to celebrate students for their achievements in reading, encourage the students to meet their reading minutes goals, and build a culture of reading at Helms Middle School;
WHEREAS, the event is open only to the students and staff of Helms Middle School as well as the volunteers from community organizations; and
WHEREAS, the event will serve a total of 561 students and the sponsorship will assist with covering games, activities, and books that will be given out to the students.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Pablo hereby authorizes a sponsorship in the amount of $2,000 to Helms Middle School (Bay Area Community Resources as the fiscal agent ) for the Reading Carnival Event at Helms Middle School; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a total of $30,000 has been budgeted and earmarked for Special Event Annual Sponsorships under the Adopted FY 202 4-25 General Operating Budget – City Council Department (100-1110-44050). The authorized sponsorship in the amount of $2,000 will be deducted from this expense balance leaving a remaining balance of $12,000 for the remainder of FY 2024-25 for future sponsorships by the City Council.
