I am writing in support of staff's recommendation on the Third Street Rehab Project, and applaud the city for moving forward with this important project. The two-way bicycle facility on the south side of Second Street will greatly increase accessibility, and most importantly safety for people on bicycles, especially for those in the Gerstle Park, Downtown and West End neighborhoods traveling east and west.
I especially commend the willingness to reallocate street space from on-street parking to a safe and separated, all-ages-and-abilities bicycle facility.
Please do not delay this project any further and continue to risk more injuries or death without this important improvement to our City. I live in the West End and am excited to use the facility as a safe route east and west through Downtown.

Personally, I live in the Santa Margarita neighborhood and will greatly benefit from this project when I commute to the Ferry by bike or when I bike into downtown San Rafael with my wife and daughter.
Honestly, the current bike way on 2nd street is so dangerous that I would never ride this way with my family and so we opt for San Anselmo instead which is a shame because there are many great places in San Rafael that we would love to bike to if there was a better connection.
I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition and appreciate your hard work in making this happen!

Please move forward with this important project without further delay. There have already been too many delays.
The two-way bikeway on the south side of Second Street is extremely important. I can say this from extensive personal experience. I ride this way frequently, and when I do, I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands. There needs to be a SAFE and SEPARATED EAST-WEST BIKE ROUTE! Please stop prioritizing parking for a small but vocal minority and make this road SAFE for cyclists of all abilities, from all over Marin and beyond.
SAFETY is more important than PARKING!

I helped write the first San Rafael Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan before the year 2,000, and at that time the BPAC realized that because of the layout of 2nd and 3rd streets and the topography of the area it would be essential to have a two way path along the south side of 2nd street between We needed it then, and now more than 20 years later, we still need it.
So let’s not delay the project any longer

My partner and I are avid bikers living in Sun Valley and use this route today to reach areas south of San Rafael. The current configuration as I am sure you know is very dangerous for bicyclists and pedestrians trying to share a narrow sidewalk! The new two-way bicycle facility on the south side of Second Street will greatly increase safety.
