Subject: Leaf blowers
Dear Leaders of San Rafael --
I believe the liabilities of leaf blowers more than outweigh the cosmetic value of making our yards look tidy quickly:
• Gas-powered leaf blowers produces a surprising amount of air pollution (30 min. of a leaf blower = 3800 miles of pickup truck emissions)
• They create carcinogenic, ultrafine-particle exhaust, particularly injurious to the gardener
• They cause major sound pollution
• They strip valuable topsoil from our flowerbeds (this goes for electric ones, too) I realize they have been a time-saving tool for gardeners, but I propose that we all accept a certain amount of leaf debris as normal and infinitely more healthful for the planet.
Thank you for considering the banning of these climate-changing nuisances.
