San Rafael City Council Meetings October 3, 2022
My name is Sophillia Tagaban.

I am a resident here in Marin County.

I also own a company that advocates against racism, and descrimination.

I want to talk about advocacy
I am here advocating for this community because I am a part of it, I raise children here and I respect my neighbors of all colors and cultures.

Advocacy is changing. It is not one person. There is a paradigm shift happening where we are realizing that advocacy is tied to our personal consciousness to acknowledge that we deserve better. To acknowledge racism, and discrimination with in our communities, and stand up against injustice. Advocacy is essential to community effort.

We are SR, right? That's what you teach at the high school To be proud of OUR COMMUNITY.

The canal and every other marginalized community within Marin County is not separate from any of you. As city representatives, and police you hold responsibilities to protect and serve all of the people, to name injustice where you see it, and hold accountability.

It is important to reflect, and ask ourselves, What am I doing to advocate for my community in our personal and professional lives? I keep hearing this was a “bad apple” in the department, but I learned from the last city council meeting that this has happened countless times on your watch.

Law Enforcement Code of Ethics
As your fundamental duty to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice. Mateo had a broken nose and concussion. It is your responsibility to build a community where we can all thrive and feel safe. Police violence cannot be tolerated. #justiceformateo
