To: Distrib- City Clerk <[email protected]> Subject: PUBLIC Comments - City Council Meeting 1/21/2025 - Fair Drive: Tree Removal Dear Mayor and City Council Members
We experienced very poor planning, workmanship and supervision of a tree cutting service for PG&E resulting in soil erosion and new rain water run off spilling off the hillside onto Fair Drive above our property The new run off is concerning and likely permanent. It is due to the vendors disregard of any best practices.
On 11/26/2025 Core Tree Care of Petaluma began hacking away at trees above in a private Open Space. The tree cutters did not understand / speak English.
Apparently they were following a "PG&EPI" direction of ribbons.
I contacted your office on 11/27 and one gentleman checked to determine if this work and/or the traffic regulation was permitted. Apparently not, but he was unable to get your code enforcement to respond. I also left a vm message with the vendor, city code enforcement, the city manager and the mayor. Unfortunately my currency is not strong enough for a response albeit we have lived in San Rafael since 1986.
While understanding the need to clear the PG&E lines there is no need to fell trees wholesale when topping, pruning or other would work. How can you as a City regulate unabated hacking of our neighborhood trees that provide shelter, erosion control and green pastures?
Thank you.
Kindest Regards
